Late Thaw consists of Kate Main and Warren Murfitt (on double bass and guitar, respectively); two Vancouver singer songwriters. Following in the tradition of duet styling inherent in country music, their album is filled with original lyrical ballads and upbeat tunes. The addition of pedal steel, dobro, fiddle and banjo all contribute to an authentic country and bluegrass sound.
According to Adrian Mack of the Georgia Straight, " Drawing on some of the best roots talent in the city, Late Thaw's debut album, nineteen56, is about as pleasing to the ears as you'd want. The album is also drenched in group harmonies so tight and pretty that you'll wonder if Delaney and Bonnie's famous friends were shipped in on the sly." In addition to being the year Elvis, Johnny and Carl topped the Billboard charts; 'ninteen56' is also the number above Kate and Warren's respective doors.
